A man can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in his work. This too, I see, is from the hand of God, for without him, who can eat or find enjoyment? – Ecclesiastes 2:24-25
In the midst of the author’s disillusionment with life, we find a precious nugget of wisdom – God is the one who ultimately satisfies. The book of Ecclesiastes was written from a man (probably Solomon) who had everything in life, yet was unfulfilled. It is good to be reminded that when we forget God, we are also separating ourselves from our ability to experience the fullness of joy in life, no matter what our socio-economic status is.
